BY LAWS



ARTICLE I –  OFFICERS:  The Villages Arts and Crafts Association officers shall be a president, a vice president, a secretary and a treasurer.  These four officers shall constitute the Executive Committee.  


ARTICLE II – TERM OF OFFICE is 2 years.


ARTICLE III – NOMINATIONS: The Vice President and the Past President shall serve as the Nominating Committee for the following year with one other Board member, appointed by the President from the general membership. Nominations from the floor will also be accepted at the November election.          


ARTICLE IV – ELECTION of Officers shall take place at the November meeting for the following year.  A quorum (10%) of the total membership is necessary to hold the election.




Procedures for the Nominating Committee


1.      Out of courtesy, ask each of the 4 officers if s/he wishes to serve another 2-year term in his/her position.

a.      If yes, then that person stays in the position.

b.     If no, the Nominating Committee seeks another person to nominate.

2.      The 3-person Nominating Committee meets and lists possible candidates.

3.     The Nominating Committee contacts each nominee and asks if s/her will stand for election and serve a 2-year term. If the reply is affirmative, a copy of the relevant job description is sent to each for review.

4.     The Nominating Committee brings each of the 4 nominees to the October Advisory Board Meeting so that the Advisory Board can meet them and ask questions.

5.     The nominees leave the meeting and the Advisory Board votes by secret ballot whether to accept this slate of officers or not.

6.     The Nominating Committee presents the slate of officers for 2026-2027 to the general membership at its November meeting. And asks for each office, if there are nominees from the floor. If there are nominations from the floor, the 2 or 3 candidates are asked to leave the room while a show of hands count is done for that particular office.  

7.     Election is held by show of hands or by a motion by a member to elect by acclimation.

Nominating Committee

Vice President Claudia Welch, past President Barbara Gottesman, Member at Large Diane Finley. Nominating Committee constitued according to the By Laws.


Barbara presented the slate of officers, as approved by the Advisory Board, to the general membership at its meeting on November 3.  The necessary 10% of our 291 membership was present.  All 42 members present approved and the new officers for 2026 - 2027 are President Parthenia Hicks, Vice President Claudia Welch, Secretary Stephanie Torres and Treasurer Suzanne Ferris.


Many thanks to all our 42 members who came out to make this election official!


We all enjoyed the  plethora of wreaths which Stephanie showed us, and we will buy some from her  at Holiday Faire!

President Mandy Book asked the Nominating Committee to present its report on Thursday, August 25, at the Advisory Board meeting.  Barbara reported for the Committee and passed out a list the 4 nominees to the members present:


Parthenia Hicks for President

Claudia Welch for Vice President

Stephanie Torres for Secretary

Julie Perkins for Treasurer.


Diane reported that Julie had withdrawn her name for Treasurer. So now the posiiton is open,  and the Nominating Committee is looking for a member to  volunteer to serve as Treasurer for 2026 and 2027.


Later Suzanne Ferris agreed to serve as Treasurer since no one else volunteered.

Officers elected Vice President Claudia Welch, President Parthenia Hicks,

Secretary Stephanie Torres.

Treasurer Suzanne Ferris was absent.

According to the VACA By Laws (revised and approved by the Villages Board of Directors in 2018), the biennial Nominating Committee will consist of the current Vice President, a Past President and a Member at Large.


The 2025 Nominating Committee met on September 10 and produced this slate of officers to present to the Advisory Board for approval on October 30.  Claudia Welch, Barbara Gottesman and Diane Finley agreed on these 4:

President Parthenia Hicks, Vice President Claudia Welch, Secretary Stephanie Torres and Treasurer Julie Perkins.  Julie Perkins withdrew and Suzanne Ferris agreed to continue as Treasurer.  The Advisory Board approved this slate of officers and will present these nominees for election on November 3, 2025 at the general membership meeting.


There are 12 positions on the current Advisory Board:

4 officers and 5 committee chairs.  4 officers are elected every 2 years.  The 5 committee chairs volunteer and are confirmed by the President and the Advisory Board.

2 people are filling 2 positions:  Michael Sunzeri has Exhibits and Programs.  Barbara Gottesman has Art Classes Scheduling and Webmaster. Marion Rose is chair for Arr Films, Diane Finley is in charge of Ceramics, Colleen Mirassou is New Members Greeter.
